2008 Tyson Homes Build House Sponsorship Information

As the cost of land, construction materials and contractors increases, so does the cost of each Habitat home. Habitat cannot simply include each price increase in a family's mortgage or we will not be able to meet our mission of building simple, decent, affordable housing for families whose gross income falls in the 30% - 60% range of median income for the Anchorage area. In other words, a family of four can qualify financially for our program if their gross income is between $23,600 and $47,200 and can support a mortgage if we can keep their housing ratio at 25% - 30% of their gross income - or a monthly mortgage of $640 - $720. Thus, Habitat has had to increase the cost of house sponsorships to try to recoup as much of the cost of building the home as possible - even with as much volunteer labor and as many materials and service donations as feasible.

The house sponsorship for each of the four homes in the 2008 Tyson Homes Build is $100,000. A single sponsorship allows the home to be named after the sponsor, such as the 2008 Energy Partnership House. Ideally Habitat would like to see more of our homes sponsored by a consortium of companies of similar types of businesses. Until more consortiums can be developed, a house sponsorship can be shared by up to four sponsors whose names will appear on the house.

What if you want to be a House Sponsor but cannot afford a large financial commitment?

Each year Habitat designates one of our houses as the Community House. This house allows individuals, smaller corporations, small businesses, community service organizations and faith communities to share sponsorship for a smaller investment. Sponsorship levels in the 2008 Community House are:
