How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Your gift to Habitat for Humanity Anchorage through Pick.Click.Give, supports all aspects of building a Habitat house. From sheet rock and nails to paving and planting it takes committed individuals like you to change lives through home ownership. Safe, affordable housing is essential for a healthy community and helps homeowners provide better for their families. It might mean more food on the table, the ability to purchase reliable transportation or better manage unexpected expenses. Equally as important, homeownership affords a partner family's children the stability of regularly attending a neighborhood school, statistically improving educational outcomes and potential for success in life.
Habitat homeowners are legal residents in need of safe, decent, affordable housing, and earn between 30 - 60% of the median Anchorage income based on their family size. They have jobs that provide the steady income required to pay a mortgage, and are willing to partner with the organization to help build their house. Habitat partner families are mentored in home ownership and financial management skills as well as workforce development. Families are required to contribute between 250 - 600 "sweat equity hours" depending on the size of the family - to building their house and their neighbor's.
Habitat for Humanity has been building houses in Anchorage since 1993, and is now seeing the generational impact our work is having on the children of some early homeowners. Through commitment and hard work, one family successfully paid off their mortgage and is now able to help their child attend college, creating the opportunity for a better life for the next generation. Habitat partners do not want a hand-out; they simply need a hand-up.
Thank you for joining us, together we are building houses, building hope and changing lives.
